About Organisation
Global Action to End Smoking (GA) is an independent U.S. nonprofit organization focused on eradicating the smoking epidemic worldwide. Its mission is to accelerate evidence-based efforts to end the use of combustible tobacco, which remains the leading preventable cause of death globally. GA emphasizes three primary areas: Health and Science Research, Cessation Education, and Agricultural Transformation. By fostering scientific research, policy interventions, and public health education, GA seeks to mitigate the effects of smoking, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In recent years, GA has shifted its funding strategy to focus solely on initiatives that do not involve tobacco or non-medicinal nicotine products, ensuring its alignment with public health objectives.
About the Grant
The “Ending the Smoking Epidemic by Advancing Global Research for Innovative Smoking Cessation” grant aims to support small-scale, investigator-initiated research projects that focus on innovative smoking cessation strategies. These projects will address scientific gaps, explore new cessation approaches, and adapt interventions to local contexts. The grant prioritizes research in LMICs and marginalized populations in high-income countries (HICs), with a focus on reducing the smoking burden in regions with high tobacco-related morbidity and mortality. Proposals are expected to explore both traditional tobacco cessation methods and the role of reduced-risk nicotine products, such as e-cigarettes, in smoking cessation efforts.
Who can Apply?
This grant is open to academic institutions, think tanks, research centers, and other entities with experience in public health, behavioral health, psychology, epidemiology, disease prevention, and health communications. Previous research experience in smoking cessation or tobacco control is desirable but not mandatory. Eligible applicants must be registered entities in their country of origin with the ability to accept U.S.-based grants. Applications should focus on populations in LMICs or marginalized groups within HICs who are disproportionately affected by smoking. Applicants from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups in smoking cessation research are especially encouraged to apply.
How to Apply?
Applications must be submitted via GA’s online portal, including all required templates for the proposal, budget, and work plan.
Application Deadline
First-quarter submission deadline is January 17, 2025, by 12:00 PM UK time.
