About Organisation

Global Action to End Smoking (GA) is a non-profit organization committed to eradicating smoking-related health issues globally. GA focuses on advancing innovative approaches to smoking cessation through dissemination, education, and training. With a particular emphasis on low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and marginalized populations in high-income countries (HICs), GA’s mission is to reduce tobacco-related disparities and improve public health outcomes. Through its Dissemination, Implementation, and Training (DIT) workstream, the organization addresses widespread misinformation about nicotine and promotes evidence-based smoking cessation tools. GA supports diverse research initiatives, educational campaigns, and community-based programs tailored to the unique needs of different populations. The organization also prioritizes interdisciplinary approaches and encourages collaborations with experts across public health, behavioral science, and health communications fields. By fostering awareness and accessibility, GA seeks to empower individuals and communities worldwide to make informed choices about quitting smoking, ultimately contributing to a smoke-free future.

About the Grant

The Advancing Innovative Smoking Cessation through Dissemination, Implementation, and Training (DIT) Grants by GA aims to fund projects that educate and empower individuals to quit smoking. With a focus on science-based solutions, the grant supports initiatives that increase awareness of local cessation options, correct misinformation about nicotine’s risks, and promote the role of reduced-risk nicotine products for smokers unable or unwilling to use traditional methods. The funding is designed for small-scale, investigator-initiated projects that address the unique needs of priority populations, particularly in LMICs and marginalized groups in HICs. Projects may include health communications campaigns, educational interventions, and research capacity-building activities. Each project must demonstrate a clear plan for implementation, measurable outcomes, and alignment with GA’s mission. GA also emphasizes knowledge dissemination through case studies and open-access publications to maximize public health impact and foster sustainable smoking cessation practices.

Who can Apply?

Eligible applicants include academic institutions, research centers, think tanks, and health-focused organizations with expertise in public health, tobacco control, or related fields. Entities must be registered in their country of origin and able to receive grants from U.S.-based non-profits. Applicants with prior experience in smoking cessation research or harm-reduction strategies are preferred but not required. GA prioritizes projects targeting populations disproportionately affected by smoking, including LMIC residents, Indigenous peoples, individuals of low socioeconomic status, and sexual or gender minorities. Proposals must align with GA’s goals, and applicants should demonstrate the capacity to implement tailored programs addressing local needs. Projects involving reduced-risk nicotine products should occur in jurisdictions where such products are legally available, though exceptions may apply. Proposals from diverse disciplines and underrepresented groups in smoking cessation research are highly encouraged.
