IKI Medium Grants, introduced in 2020, emphasize empowering smaller-scale civil society actors, particularly in developing and emerging countries, to contribute innovatively to climate action and biodiversity conservation.
About the Grant
The IKI Medium Grants aim to fund innovative, bottom-up project ideas that align with the goals of the Paris Agreement and CBD. These grants support activities like capacity building, international networking, and evidence-based solutions for sustainable development. Projects can range from EUR 300,000 to 800,000 and typically span two to three years. Applicants are selected annually through a two-phase process, with funding priorities announced for each cycle. The program encourages creative approaches to tackling global environmental challenges while fostering collaboration between German-based organisations and local implementing partners.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include non-profit civil society organisations, academic institutions, and non-profit companies. Applicants must have a permanent business establishment or branch in Germany when receiving the first grant disbursement. Partnerships with one or two local implementing organisations in the target region are mandatory. Projects must demonstrate innovation, address funding priorities, and align with IKI’s objectives. Applicants undergo a thorough selection process, starting with an ideas competition and progressing to a detailed proposal phase for shortlisted projects.
