About Organisation
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, supports research, innovation and human-resource development in biotechnology and allied scientific disciplines. DBT works to strengthen India’s biotechnology ecosystem by funding research, developing scientific talent and encouraging technological applications in areas relevant to health, agriculture, environment and industry. Through programmes such as BioCARe, the department also seeks to improve participation of women researchers in scientific research careers. The DBT BioCARe Programme provides opportunities for eligible women researchers to develop independent research projects and strengthen their careers in biotechnology, life sciences and related interdisciplinary fields.
About the Grant
The DBT BioCARe Programme 2026–27 is designed to support women researchers pursuing career development in biotechnology and allied areas. The programme aims to encourage women scientists to undertake independent research and strengthen their participation in India’s scientific research ecosystem. Eligible research areas include biotechnology, life sciences, bioengineering, healthcare, agriculture, veterinary sciences, environmental biotechnology and bioenergy. The project duration can extend up to three years. The programme is particularly relevant for unemployed Indian women researchers who meet the prescribed educational and eligibility requirements and are seeking an opportunity to establish or advance their research careers.
Who can Apply?
The programme is open to Indian women nationals residing in India who are unemployed on the application closing date and are up to 55 years of age. Category I applicants should have completed a PhD in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, allied or interdisciplinary sciences, or hold MD, MDS or M.V.Sc. qualifications. Category II applicants should have an M.Tech in Biotechnology or allied areas, M.Pharma or an equivalent degree. Candidates currently enrolled in higher studies or receiving another fellowship are not eligible. Applicants should ensure that their qualifications and employment status satisfy the programme requirements before submitting an application.
How to Apply?
Eligible candidates should complete the online application through the designated DBT BioCARe application system before the closing date. Applicants should review the programme guidelines, select the appropriate category and prepare the required academic, research and supporting information. The research proposal should clearly describe the proposed work, objectives, methodology and expected outcomes. Candidates should verify all eligibility conditions and required documents before final submission, as incomplete or ineligible applications may not be considered.
