The Tailored Collaboration (TC) Program by the Water Research Foundation offers a unique opportunity for subscribing utilities to engage in collaborative research that addresses shared industry challenges. Designed to support initiatives that may start with local or regional concerns but have broader relevance, this program promotes innovation and applicability across the water sector. The TC Program encourages research on emerging topics or underexplored areas and can also build on existing studies to test real-world implementation and effectiveness. What distinguishes the TC Program is its co-funding model, allowing utilities to match their research investments with WRF’s funding, thereby maximizing the impact of limited resources. The program provides substantial value through WRF’s independent review process, expert project management, and an extensive dissemination network. Projects can be self-conducted, executed through a chosen contractor, or awarded via WRF’s competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) process. The TC Program not only supports impactful research but also enhances credibility, technical support, and knowledge sharing within the water sector. For 2025, a total fund of $1,617,294 is available, with individual applicants eligible for a 1:1 match of up to $150,000 in WRF funds.
