Watson Institute, in partnership with Western Union, is dedicated to supporting the growth and leadership potential of entrepreneurs from marginalized, refugee, and displaced communities. With a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by these communities, the Institute offers a fully-funded Fellowship that equips leaders with the skills, tools, and networks needed to scale impact-driven ventures. The program is designed to empower changemakers who are already working in underserved areas, providing them with immersive learning experiences, mentorship from industry experts, and access to a global community of like-minded innovators. Through thoughtfully curated workshops, one-on-one guidance, and collaborative projects, Watson Institute aims to create a ripple effect of social good by strengthening community leadership, enhancing organizational strategies, and amplifying visibility for grassroots initiatives.
About the Grant
The Watson Institute Fellowship is a fully-funded program designed for entrepreneurs working to address the challenges faced by marginalized and displaced populations. Running from August 25 to December 16, 2025, the Fellowship includes a two-week immersive experience, weekly virtual sessions, and a culminating Virtual Summit. Fellows receive extensive support through virtual workshops, mentorship, and a Community Development Stipend to implement a “Basecamp”—a 1–3 day impact-driven community event. The grant empowers selected leaders to refine their pitch, grow professionally, and scale their ventures through practical experiences and expert guidance. Fellows also benefit from enhanced visibility, networking opportunities, and leadership training tailored to the unique needs of social entrepreneurs focused on underserved communities.
Who can Apply?
This Fellowship is open to entrepreneurs who have directly experienced the challenges of marginalized, refugee, or displaced communities and are actively working to solve issues affecting these populations. Eligible applicants must have an existing nonprofit or for-profit venture with a proven business model that is already creating impact in historically underserved areas. The program seeks individuals ready to expand their reach and effectiveness through structured support and mentorship. Applicants should be based in or have ventures operating in countries such as India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Uganda, Pakistan, Costa Rica, Argentina, Brazil, the Philippines, Lithuania, the U.S., U.K., Germany, Colombia, Mexico, and Japan. Full participation throughout the Fellowship is required to ensure the maximum benefit for all involved.
How to Apply?
Interested candidates should complete an online application that takes around 30 minutes. Following submission, shortlisted applicants will be invited for a Zoom interview to discuss their venture and alignment with the Fellowship.
