The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) is a global financing partnership focused on improving food security, agricultural development, and rural livelihoods in the world’s poorest countries. GAFSP supports country-led investments that strengthen agriculture and food systems while improving opportunities for smallholder farmers and vulnerable rural communities. Its work focuses on increasing agricultural productivity, strengthening market access, building climate resilience, and supporting sustainable and inclusive food systems. Through partnerships with governments and approved Supervising Entities, GAFSP provides financing for high-impact development initiatives. The GAFSP 9th Call for Proposals 2026 advances these objectives through targeted country-led projects.

About the Grant

The GAFSP 9th Call for Proposals 2026 provides approximately US$163 million in grant financing for high-impact and scalable country-led projects addressing global food security challenges. The funding supports innovative approaches to agricultural productivity, market access, climate resilience, women’s empowerment, nutrition, and sustainable food systems. Aligned with the GAFSP Strategic Plan 2025–2030, these food security grants encourage collaboration between governments, development institutions, farmers, civil society, and private-sector stakeholders. Priority is also placed on fragile and conflict-affected countries. Through this call, GAFSP expects to finance approximately 6 to 10 projects across eligible low-income countries.

Who can Apply?

The GAFSP grants 2026 Country-Led modality is open to national governments of eligible countries working with an approved GAFSP Supervising Entity. Eligible investment Supervising Entities include the World Bank, AfDB, ADB, IDB, and IFAD, while FAO and WFP may support technical assistance activities. NGOs, individual farmers, private firms, local governments, academic institutions, civil society organisations, and research institutes cannot apply directly. However, governments should meaningfully engage these stakeholders while preparing proposals. Applicants must demonstrate strong country ownership, implementation readiness, innovative solutions, and alignment with national priorities. Co-financing is mandatory, and proposals without co-financing are considered ineligible.

How to Apply?

Eligible national governments should prepare their GAFSP 9th Call for Proposals 2026 applications in consultation with their selected Supervising Entity and relevant stakeholders. Applicants must complete the updated Country-Led Proposal Template, budget template, and required supporting documents. Proposals should demonstrate country ownership, implementation readiness, co-financing, stakeholder engagement, and innovative approaches to food security and agricultural development. All required proposal documents must be submitted according to the Call guidelines.
