About Organisation

The Vera List Center for Art and Politics (VLC) is a unique interdisciplinary institution at The New School, dedicated to supporting the intersection of art, politics, and culture. It fosters critical inquiry through research and the development of projects that challenge societal norms. VLC serves as a collaborative hub for artists, scholars, and activists, enabling them to engage with a wide range of intellectual resources. It offers platforms for experimental and political artistic practices, supporting underrepresented voices in the art world.

About the Fellowship

The Vera List Center Fellowship supports national and international early or mid-career artists, writers, scholars, and activists, especially those from underrepresented communities. This part-time, two-year fellowship provides financial and professional resources to help fellows develop and present innovative projects. The fellowship focuses on collaborative research and community engagement within the context of the VLC’s Biennial Focus Theme. Fellows are offered substantial curatorial support and are expected to contribute to the Center’s public programming and outreach initiatives.

Who can Apply?

The VLC Fellowship is open to visual and performing artists, scholars, journalists, activists, critics, and curators working on projects that merge art and politics. Applicants should have experience in creating and executing projects and must not be enrolled in a degree-granting program. The fellowship encourages diverse candidates, particularly those with limited institutional support. Projects centered on ongoing business operations, promotion, or curating existing work are not eligible. Applicants must show how their project aligns with the VLC’s Biennial Focus Theme.

How to Apply?

Interested applicants should submit their project proposal through the VLC Fellowship’s open call. Ensure the proposal aligns with the fellowship’s thematic focus and meets all eligibility requirements. Applications will be assessed based on their creative approach, project feasibility, and long-term impact.
