Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is a global initiative that supports journalists working on environmental and climate issues. The organization provides opportunities for reporters to attend major international events and gain crucial experience, focusing on elevating environmental reporting to global audiences. Through various fellowship programs, EJN helps journalists engage with policy makers, environmental experts, and fellow journalists to improve the coverage of environmental issues, with a special emphasis on marginalized communities and underrepresented regions.
About the Grant
The UN Ocean Conference 2025 Fellowship is an in-person program aimed at supporting journalists in attending and reporting on the United Nations Ocean Conference in June 2025, held in Nice, France. The fellowship, funded by the Bloomberg Ocean Fund, offers selected journalists full support, including airfare, accommodation, meals, medical insurance, and travel-related expenses. Fellows will have the opportunity to cover key ocean conservation discussions and enhance their environmental reporting skills. EJN offers journalists logistical support and media training to help them effectively cover the conference’s significant developments in ocean protection and sustainable use of marine resources.
Who can Apply?
This fellowship is open to professional journalists reporting from any country with a coast. Journalists from low- and middle-income countries, especially from the Mediterranean region, are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have experience covering ocean-related issues such as pollution, illegal fishing, ocean acidification, and marine protection policies. Freelancers are welcome but must provide a letter of support from an established media outlet. All applicants must have a good command of the English language and be available for the full duration of the conference (June 7-14, 2025).
