About Organisation

The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is a global organization dedicated to supporting women journalists worldwide. IWMF provides financial support, professional development, and advocacy for female and nonbinary journalists facing adversity. Their initiatives aim to ensure women’s voices are heard across various media platforms, fostering diverse perspectives in global journalism. Through its programs, the IWMF enables impactful reporting, especially in underrepresented and marginalized communities. The Kim Wall Memorial Fund, one of the organization’s key initiatives, reflects the IWMF’s commitment to honoring courageous journalism that embodies the values Kim Wall stood for—fearless, innovative, and focused on underreported stories.

About the Grant

The Kim Wall Memorial Fund, established by the IWMF, provides $5,000 grants to women or nonbinary journalists who produce reporting that reflects the spirit of Kim Wall’s work. The fund supports investigative and long-form journalism focused on “subcultures” and “undercurrents of rebellion”—topics Kim Wall was passionate about. The grant covers reporting-related costs such as travel, logistics, insurance, visa fees, and professional stipends, allowing journalists to explore and uncover stories that challenge societal norms. The aim is to honor Kim’s legacy by fostering similar bold, on-the-ground reporting.

Who can Apply?

The grant is open to women and nonbinary journalists worldwide who have at least one year of professional experience in news media. Internships do not count toward the required professional experience. Both freelance and staff journalists are eligible to apply, but only individual applications will be accepted. Applicants must demonstrate fluency in written and verbal English, though reporting may be published in any language. Proof of interest from an editor or a proven publication track record is required. The funding may be allocated for reporting partners like photographers or producers.
