India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) is an independent, national, not-for-profit organisation that supports practice, research and education in the arts and culture across India. About the Grant
The IFA Arts Research Programme 2026 supports projects exploring flexible, experimental and interdisciplinary approaches to research in the arts. Projects may investigate creative practices, cultural histories, personal narratives, translation, technology, memories, community engagement or marginalised perspectives. Research can also encourage dialogue between art and science, philosophy, digital media, cultural practices and other disciplines. IFA particularly welcomes projects that challenge conventional research methods and develop new ways of producing and sharing knowledge. Selected projects should create outcomes accessible to diverse audiences and can use textual, visual, performative, curatorial, pedagogical, digital, sonic or other creative formats.
Who can Apply?
The IFA Arts Research Programme 2026 is open only to Indian nationals, including scholars, practitioner-researchers, artists, curators, translators, artist-activists, educators, authors, philosophers and others working between research and creative practice. PIO and OCI cardholders are not eligible. Applicants must hold a PAN card and provide an Indian Passport, Aadhaar Card or Voter ID as citizenship proof. Only individuals may apply; organisations cannot apply. Collaborators must also be Indian nationals. Individuals currently implementing an IFA-supported project or those with unresolved financial or deliverable obligations to IFA are not eligible for this funding opportunity.
How to Apply?
Applicants should prepare a proposal clearly explaining research questions, objectives, motivation, stakeholders and intended outcomes. The final submission must include the project proposal, curriculum vitae and detailed budget breakdown. Proposals may be written in any Indian language, including English. All documents must be submitted together in a single email not exceeding 25 MB. Applicants may discuss project ideas and queries with the programme team before submitting their final proposal.
