About Organisation
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a global nonprofit organization responsible for ensuring the stable and secure operation of the Internet’s unique identifier systems. Established to coordinate and manage domain names, IP addresses, and protocols, ICANN plays a crucial role in maintaining the global Internet infrastructure. It operates through a multistakeholder governance model that includes governments, private sector entities, technical experts, and civil society representatives. By fostering collaboration and transparency, ICANN ensures that the Internet remains open, interoperable, and accessible worldwide. Through its various initiatives, ICANN actively promotes inclusivity, capacity building, and policy development to support the growth and security of the Internet ecosystem. One of its key programs, the ICANN Fellowship Program, is designed to support individuals from underrepresented regions by providing training, mentorship, and access to policy-making discussions. The fellowship serves as a bridge for new voices to engage with Internet governance, fostering a diverse and inclusive digital landscape. ICANN’s efforts empower individuals and communities to contribute meaningfully to global Internet policies, strengthening the future of a secure and resilient Internet for all.
About the Grant
The ICANN Fellowship Program is a unique initiative designed to empower individuals from underserved and underrepresented communities by providing them opportunities to engage actively in Internet governance. Through this program, fellows gain hands-on experience with ICANN’s policy development, Domain Name System (DNS) operations, and Internet security. Participants receive tailored mentorship, undergo skill-building training, and are supported in attending ICANN Public Meetings. This exposure enables fellows to network with global experts, contribute to discussions, and play an active role in shaping Internet governance. The program promotes inclusivity by welcoming applicants from diverse backgrounds, particularly from developing regions, ensuring a representative global digital policy framework. Selected fellows receive travel assistance to attend ICANN meetings, fostering a collaborative environment where they can learn and contribute effectively. Special recognitions, such as the Paul Muchene Fellow Award and the Tarek Kamel Fellowship Recognition, honor individuals with technical expertise or outstanding contributions to capacity development. The program aims to create a sustainable impact by encouraging continued engagement in ICANN’s community beyond the fellowship term, strengthening the representation of different voices in Internet policy-making and governance.
