About Organisation

The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta (CFSEA) is a community-focused philanthropic organization that works to strengthen communities across Southeastern Alberta. Through grantmaking, partnerships and local research, CFSEA supports initiatives that address important social, economic and community priorities. Its funding decisions are informed by community knowledge and initiatives such as Vital Signs, which helps identify emerging needs and opportunities across the region. The foundation works with charities, nonprofit organizations and other eligible community institutions to support practical projects that create measurable benefits. Through programmes such as the Community Grants Program, CFSEA helps organizations respond to local challenges while building stronger, more inclusive and resilient communities.

About the Grant

The CFSEA Community Grants Program provides funding for projects that address demonstrated community needs in Southeastern Alberta. Eligible organizations can request up to $25,000 per project for initiatives supporting areas such as workforce development, economic resilience, social inclusion, community engagement, mental well-being, food security, housing stability and healthcare access. Projects should have clearly defined objectives, measurable outcomes, realistic budgets and a direct connection to CFSEA’s funding priorities. The programme focuses on project-based support rather than unrestricted organizational operations. In certain circumstances, multi-year funding of up to two years may be considered. Successful projects should demonstrate meaningful and measurable benefits for local communities.

Who can Apply?

Eligible applicants must provide services in Southeastern Alberta and meet CFSEA’s organizational requirements. Potential applicants include registered charities, municipalities, school divisions, qualified donees and eligible nonprofit organizations working in partnership with a qualified donee. Registered nonprofit societies in Alberta may also apply directly where they meet the programme’s requirements, including the applicable five-year good-standing requirement. Applicants should have no outstanding final reports from previous CFSEA Community Grants. Proposed projects must address a demonstrated community need, align with one or more funding priorities, benefit Southeastern Alberta communities and have achievable objectives and measurable outcomes. Political activities, religious activities, debt repayment and projects outside the region are not eligible.

How to Apply?

First, confirm your organization’s eligibility and identify the specific community need your project will address. Develop a clear project plan with objectives, activities, beneficiaries and measurable outcomes. Connect the proposal directly to CFSEA’s funding priorities and prepare a realistic project budget. Explain the project’s long-term value and relevant partnerships. Check previous CFSEA reporting requirements and submit the completed application with all required information before the stated deadline.
