Amphibian Ark (AArk) is a global conservation initiative dedicated to preventing the extinction of threatened amphibian species. Founded in 2007, it works with conservation organisations, zoos, research institutions and other partners to strengthen amphibian conservation capacity worldwide. Its work particularly addresses species facing immediate extinction risks that require specialised conservation interventions. Amphibian Ark supports conservation needs assessments, capacity building, species management and ex situ programmes designed to maintain viable populations outside threatened natural habitats. Through the Amphibian Ark Program Grants 2026, the organisation provides financial assistance to conservation teams establishing programmes that can contribute to long-term species survival and recovery.
About the Grant
The Amphibian Ark Program Grants 2026 provide initial funding for newly launched ex situ rescue projects protecting amphibian species requiring urgent conservation intervention. Successful programmes can receive up to US$7,000 during their first year, with potential continuation funding for up to three years. Projects may involve captive populations, breeding, husbandry, conservation facilities and species management, alongside appropriate field activities. Eligible species must have undergone a Conservation Needs Assessment and been identified as requiring ex situ rescue or research. The programme ultimately aims to establish sustainable conservation populations capable of supporting the long-term recovery of highly threatened amphibian species.
Who can Apply?
Applications are welcomed globally, particularly from countries with established National Programs. Applicants should represent organisations or institutions capable of managing amphibian conservation projects and receiving funding through an institutional account. Proposed species must have undergone a Conservation Needs Assessment (CNA) and been identified as needing ex situ rescue or research. Projects should demonstrate appropriate technical expertise, conservation facilities, husbandry capabilities and a clear strategy for species protection. NGOs and, in some circumstances, government institutions can receive funding. Successful recipients must comply with reporting, action planning, husbandry guidelines, documentation and other programme requirements. Personal bank accounts cannot receive grant funding.
How to Apply?
Applicants should complete the official Amphibian Ark Program Grant application, answering every required question. Before applying, prepare the required recommendation letters, project timeline and budget. Proposals should clearly identify the target species, conservation need, ex situ approach, technical capacity and expected outcomes. Applicants are encouraged to prepare responses separately before completing the online form because unfinished forms cannot be saved. Applications must be submitted within the official application window.
