Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council provides local services and funding opportunities that support communities, sports participation and wellbeing across the Borough. About the Grant
The Sport and Leisure Defibrillator Grant 2026 helps eligible voluntary sports clubs and community groups purchase an automated external defibrillator (AED) and associated security casing. Successful applicants can receive 100% funding up to £1,500 toward eligible costs. The programme aims to improve access to potentially life-saving equipment and strengthen emergency preparedness within local sporting and community environments. Funding can cover an AED and security casing but does not cover replacement pads, batteries, training costs or installation. By increasing access to defibrillators, the programme supports community health, safety, wellbeing and preparedness for cardiac emergencies.
Who can Apply?
The Sport and Leisure Defibrillator Grant 2026 is open to voluntary constituted sports clubs and community groups based within Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough. Applicants must have at least two members trained to use a defibrillator or demonstrate that members are working towards the relevant qualification. Organisations must be properly constituted, demonstrate fair and equitable practices, maintain appropriate financial records and comply with Council monitoring requirements. For-profit organisations are not eligible. Applicants should also demonstrate appropriate governance and financial responsibility. Eligible organisations must use awarded funding specifically for approved AED equipment and associated security casing purchases.
How to Apply?
Eligible organisations should confirm their eligibility and prepare information explaining their need for an AED, the number of people who will benefit, governance arrangements and financial management. Applicants should complete all relevant sections of the official grant application and provide required supporting documentation. Applications should clearly demonstrate community need and compliance with programme requirements. Complete applications must be submitted through the Council’s grant application process before the closing deadline.
