About Organisation

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is a non-profit organisation that works to ensure the health of the world’s oceans through sustainable fishing. It seeks to safeguard seafood supplies for the future by promoting responsible fishing practices globally. MSC uses an ecolabel and certification system to identify sustainable fisheries and encourages consumers to choose certified products. Its mission is to preserve marine ecosystems, ensuring that future generations can enjoy oceans full of life and sustainably sourced seafood.

About the Grant

The Science and Research Fund provides up to £50,000 in funding to support innovative research projects that advance sustainability in MSC-certified fisheries. The goal is to help fisheries maintain best practices and continue meeting rigorous sustainability standards. Priority areas for research include improving stock-wide harvest strategies, reducing impacts on endangered species, minimizing ghost gear, and enhancing habitat and ecosystem assessments. This grant focuses on practical research that supports sustainability across multiple fisheries and addresses current challenges in sustainable fishing.
