About Organisation
The World Bank is an international cooperative of 189 member countries committed to reducing poverty and driving sustainable development. Each member country, represented by a governor—usually a finance or development minister—acts as a shareholder and plays a role in setting the institution’s priorities. The Board of Governors serves as the ultimate decision-making body, meeting annually during the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings.
As one of the world’s leading financial institutions, the World Bank provides financial products, policy advice, and technical expertise to countries worldwide, supporting their efforts in economic development and poverty alleviation. Its work covers a wide range of sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, governance, climate change, and sustainability.
The Bank not only finances projects but also fosters knowledge sharing and collaboration between member nations. By mobilising resources and providing expertise, it seeks to tackle pressing challenges and build resilience in developing economies. With its long history of innovation and impact, the World Bank continues to play a pivotal role in addressing global issues, supporting inclusive growth, and promoting economic stability across the globe.
About the Grant
The World Bank Young Professionals Program (YPP) is a flagship fellowship designed to attract and nurture exceptional early-career professionals committed to international development. Running for over 60 years, the program has established itself as a prestigious gateway for future leaders seeking to make a global impact.
YPs join either the World Bank, IFC, or MIGA through Operations or Specialized function tracks. The program begins with a two-year term, which can transition into a renewable five-year contract, based on performance. Fellows contribute directly to solving urgent development challenges, including poverty reduction, sustainability, and global economic growth.
Participants also take part in the YP Academy, a structured development journey offering technical training, leadership coaching, negotiation and communication skills, and exposure to global strategies. Fellows benefit from mentorship, networking, and close interaction with senior leaders within the institution.
The program provides a platform for young professionals to combine academic knowledge with practical experience, fostering innovation and leadership in the global development arena.
