About the Grant

The Merck Stimulating Innovative Research Grant Program 2026 supports pioneering research projects with strong scientific and commercial potential. The programme funds collaborative research in priority areas including neuroinflammatory disease therapies, artificial intelligence for bioprocess development, environmental remediation, advanced screening assays and innovative molecule discovery. Successful projects receive funding of up to €500,000 per year for a maximum of three years, together with ongoing collaboration and technical guidance from Merck scientists. The programme encourages bold, interdisciplinary research that bridges academic discovery with industrial application while delivering long-term scientific and societal impact.

Who can Apply?

The Merck Stimulating Innovative Research Grant Program 2026 is open to scientists at all career stages from universities, research institutions and companies worldwide. Applicants from both academic and industrial research environments are eligible to participate. There are no restrictions based on seniority, discipline or geographic location, provided applicants are affiliated with an eligible institution or company. Researchers may submit more than one proposal, but each application must clearly align with one of the programme’s designated 2026 research focus areas. Every proposal is reviewed independently based on scientific quality, innovation and programme relevance.

How to Apply?

Applicants should first submit a non-confidential research proposal describing the project concept, innovation and relevance to one of the 2026 focus areas. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a confidential full proposal and participate in collaborative workshops with Merck scientists.
