About the Grant
The Joint Research Groups Grant UK 2026 supports collaborative mathematical research by funding research groups working across multiple institutions and locations. Funding can be used for travel, accommodation, subsistence, online collaboration tools, software licences, caring costs and technical support required for collaborative research activities. The grant aims to strengthen mathematical research networks, promote institutional cooperation and increase participation of early-career researchers. Successful projects receive funding for one year to support sustained collaboration and meaningful academic engagement.
Who can Apply?
The Joint Research Groups Grant UK 2026 is open to mathematicians based in the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and Channel Islands who are part of a collaborative research group. Each research group must include participants from at least three different locations, with at least two participating institutions located in the UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands. International collaborators may also participate. Applications must be submitted by a nominated grant holder responsible for managing the funding. PhD students cannot apply as grant holders. Non-members of the London Mathematical Society must obtain support from an LMS member before applying.
How to Apply?
Applications should be submitted by the nominated grant holder and include details of the research collaboration, participating institutions, planned meetings, research objectives and a justified budget. The proposal should clearly demonstrate the value of collaboration between institutions and explain how the activities will strengthen mathematical research. Non-members of the London Mathematical Society must obtain the required support from an LMS member before submitting their application.
