Call for Grant Applications – Japan Fund for Global Environment Grants Program 2025
Application Deadline:
December 2, 2024
About Organisation
The Japan Fund for Global Environment (JFGE) was established in 1993 following significant international discussions on environmental conservation, including the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The Japanese government initiated this fund to support non-governmental organizations (NGOs) engaged in environmental activities, following a revision of the Japan Environment Corporation Law. Since its inception, JFGE has facilitated various projects that promote and support environmental conservation efforts led by NGOs. In April 2004, the JFGE was transferred to the Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency, reinforcing its commitment to funding environmental initiatives. The fund is supported through government endowments, individual donations, and corporate contributions, with interest and subsidies allocated to projects that enhance NGO activities focused on environmental welfare.
About the Grant
The JFGE provides grants to non-profit organizations and NGOs dedicated to environmental conservation. Eligible projects are those that enhance human welfare through sustainable environmental practices, particularly in developing regions. Projects can include local afforestation efforts, wildlife protection initiatives, pollution prevention measures, and community training programs. The fund also supports research activities and international conferences that promote these initiatives. Furthermore, JFGE encourages environmental awareness and participation among the Japanese population through various projects. However, it does not support projects that are part of national policy measures or that expect a return on investment.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations conducting environmental conservation activities in developing countries recognized as DAC ODA recipients. Organizations must have their main offices in Japan or in other regions, with projects focused on responding to the needs of local communities.
