About Organisation

The International Coproduction Fund (IKF) is an initiative that fosters global artistic collaborations in the fields of music, dance, theatre, and performance art. Established to encourage intercultural exchange, the fund supports innovative productions that emphasize dialogue-driven creative processes. By facilitating collaborations between artists from Germany and other countries, especially those from developing and transition economies, the IKF seeks to strengthen international artistic networks and creative partnerships. The Goethe-Institut, a globally recognized cultural institution, administers this fund to enable artists and ensembles with limited financial resources to bring their projects to life. The focus is on projects that push artistic boundaries through interdisciplinary approaches and digital media while maintaining a high level of artistic quality. IKF prioritizes projects that have a meaningful impact on the arts scene, ensuring that they contribute to the evolution of contemporary performing arts. Beyond funding, the initiative also encourages the documentation and dissemination of artistic work, fostering broader public engagement and awareness.

About the Grant

The International Coproduction Fund (IKF) provides financial support for international collaborations in performing arts, including music, dance, theatre, and performance. This funding aims to promote the unrestricted exchange of artistic ideas while encouraging innovative, interdisciplinary approaches. The fund is designed for professional artists and ensembles who lack the financial resources to execute their projects independently. Projects funded by IKF must involve at least one German partner and should emphasize artistic collaboration rather than merely supporting guest performances or festival appearances. A strong focus is placed on projects that showcase artistic excellence and contribute meaningfully to the performing arts landscape. The initiative seeks to ensure balanced partnerships, with equal creative input from all collaborators. Selected projects should be performed at least once outside Germany, with an additional performance in Germany being desirable. The fund does not cover film or exhibition projects but welcomes hybrid and digital formats that integrate multiple disciplines. Applications must demonstrate a well-structured financial plan with contributions from other funding sources. Preference is given to collaborations with partners from transition countries, fostering cultural exchange and new perspectives within the global performing arts community.

Who can Apply?

Professional artists, ensembles, and performing arts initiatives from Germany and non-German-speaking countries are eligible to apply. The fund primarily supports projects involving artists from developing and transition countries. The first co-producer or primary applicant must be based outside Germany and will serve as the main contact, grant administrator, and contractual partner with the local Goethe-Institut. Both individual artists and legally recognized entities such as companies, associations, or institutions can apply. The project must involve active collaboration with a German partner and should not be solely a guest performance, tour, or festival participation. Applications must clearly demonstrate an equal and cooperative working relationship between the partners. Additionally, applicants must secure at least some third-party funding or contribute their own financial resources to the project. The project must be realized within 24 months and should include at least one performance outside Germany. Successful applicants are required to document their project with photos, videos, and press reports while actively engaging in public relations efforts. Proof of prior communication with the local Goethe-Institut is mandatory for application submission
