Call for Grant Applications – Global Framework on Chemicals Fund
Application Deadline:
31 January 2025
About Organisation
The Global Framework on Chemicals Fund is part of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and was established during the fifth International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM5) in September 2023. The Fund supports countries in implementing the Global Framework on Chemicals, an international agreement aimed at managing the lifecycle of chemicals, including products and waste. It focuses on transformative projects to protect human health and the environment by preventing or minimizing harm from chemicals and waste.
About the Grant
The Global Framework on Chemicals Fund supports transformative projects to promote the safe and sustainable management of chemicals and waste in developing countries, least developed countries, Small Island Developing States, and economies in transition. Projects should focus on capacity-building, enhancing national policies, and fostering sustainable financial mechanisms. Proposals that align with the Fund’s strategic priorities, such as integrating chemicals management in development processes and leveraging innovative financing, are highly encouraged. The Fund emphasizes projects with defined, measurable impacts and long-term sustainability while creating synergies with other initiatives. It also addresses cross-cutting themes and issues of global concern, aiming for substantial and visible environmental and health outcomes.
Who can Apply?
Governments from developing countries, Small Island Developing States, and countries with economies in transition are eligible to apply for funding. Civil society networks may also apply with government agreement. Regional or multi-country proposals are encouraged to maximize impact. Projects must align with the Global Framework on Chemicals’ vision and strategic priorities. They should demonstrate long-term sustainability through co-financing (at least 25%), including in-kind contributions, and avoid duplication with other funded initiatives. Proposals must involve relevant ministries and stakeholders, promote gender mainstreaming, and adhere to UNEP safeguard standards. Preference is given to projects that scale effectively, engage multiple sectors, and explore innovative financial mechanisms.
How to Apply?
Applicants must complete the required application forms and include letters of support from relevant stakeholders. Submissions should be sent to the specified email address in Word and PDF formats with all necessary documentation.
