About Organisation
Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is one of Germany’s largest private aid organizations and works toward creating a world without hunger. It supports initiatives addressing food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture and resilient food systems, particularly in communities experiencing poverty and hunger. Welthungerhilfe hosts the Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge, which was created and is funded by the Seeding The Future Foundation. The Foundation works to advance innovations that make food systems more sustainable, equitable and capable of providing safe, nutritious, affordable and trusted food. Together, the organizations use the Challenge to identify and support promising food-system innovators worldwide.
About the Grant
The 6th Annual Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge supports breakthrough innovations capable of transforming food systems, particularly those addressing challenges in the Global South. Innovations should contribute to safe and nutritious diets, sustainable or regenerative food-system practices, or equitable access to affordable, appealing and trusted food. Three award levels are available: US$25,000 Seed Grants, US$100,000 Growth Grants and US$250,000 Grand Prizes. Projects can range from promising prototypes with demonstrated feasibility to scalable solutions with significant transformative potential. The Challenge particularly seeks innovations capable of generating meaningful benefits across multiple areas of the global food system.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include nonprofits, NGOs, universities, academic and research institutions, early-stage companies and social enterprises from eligible countries. Individuals cannot apply independently, although teams of students or researchers can participate through an eligible institution. Applicants must present an innovation that is practical, economically feasible and capable of producing significant benefits for people or the environment. Seed Grant applicants should have at least a prototype or initial proof of concept, while higher-level applicants require stronger evidence of feasibility, scalability and impact. For-profit applicants must meet the programme’s early-stage requirements. Applicants select the award level appropriate to their innovation’s development stage.
How to Apply?
Applications will be accepted through the official Welthungerhilfe Global Food System Challenge platform beginning 1 January 2027. Applicants must complete the required application questions and submit a detailed project plan covering the project’s scope, timeline and budget. Organizational and financial documentation is also required. Applicants should select the appropriate Seed Grant, Growth Grant or Grand Prize category based on their innovation’s maturity, evidence, scalability and expected impact.
