The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Somalia, with financial support from the European Union, works to promote sustainable development, inclusive governance, gender equality, and economic empowerment across Somalia. Through the Women’s Economic and Social Empowerment – Bilan Media/Somali Women Media Project (SWoMP), UNDP supports initiatives that strengthen the rights, safety, leadership, and professional opportunities of women journalists. About the Grant

The Women Journalists Grant Somalia 2026 provides financial support to civil society organisations implementing projects that strengthen the rights, protection, advocacy, and collective action of women journalists in Somalia. Grants ranging from USD 30,000 to USD 80,000 support innovative initiatives that address workplace harassment, improve professional networks, increase visibility, and promote gender equality in the media sector. Projects may include advocacy campaigns, training programmes, networking events, awareness activities, communication initiatives, and stakeholder engagement. Successful projects must complement existing efforts, demonstrate measurable impact, and be completed by 31 December 2026, including final reporting requirements.

Who can Apply?

Applications are open to legally registered non-profit civil society organisations in Somalia with at least three years of legal registration. Applicants must maintain a functional bank account within Somalia and submit only one application as an individual organisation, as consortium applications are not permitted. Preference will be given to organisations with demonstrated experience in advocacy, media development, gender equality programming, and donor-funded project management. Applications must be submitted in English and include the completed grant application form, proof of legal registration, and bank account documentation. Organisations must also comply with UNDP safeguarding, anti-corruption, and environmental requirements.

How to Apply?

Eligible organisations should review the programme guidelines, select at least one priority area, and prepare an innovative project proposal aligned with Project Output 3. Complete the application form in English, attach all required supporting documents, prepare a realistic implementation plan and budget, and submit one complete application before the deadline. Ensure the proposal demonstrates measurable outcomes, innovation, and compliance with UNDP programme requirements.
