About Organisation

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is an international network and data infrastructure funded by governments worldwide. It provides open access to biodiversity data, enabling researchers, policymakers, and institutions to study life on Earth. Coordinated from its secretariat in Copenhagen, GBIF collaborates with global partners to standardize and share species data collected from diverse sources, including museum records, scientific studies, and modern digital observations. By promoting data accessibility and innovation, GBIF plays a crucial role in advancing biodiversity research, conservation planning, and ecological understanding across the globe.

About the Grant

The GBIF Graduate Researchers Award 2026 recognizes outstanding master’s and PhD students conducting innovative research using GBIF-mediated biodiversity data. This annual program highlights contributions in fields such as ecology, taxonomy, and biogeography. The award aims to encourage young researchers who demonstrate excellence in biodiversity informatics and data-driven discoveries. Two selected candidates will receive financial support and global recognition for their work. By promoting research that utilizes open-access biodiversity data, the program fosters innovation and strengthens scientific understanding of ecosystems, supporting global conservation efforts and advancing the field of environmental and ecological research.

Who can Apply?
