About Organisation
The Ernest Kleinwort Charitable Trust (EKCT) is a UK-based grant-making trust committed to supporting charitable organisations that address significant social, environmental, and health challenges. The Trust prioritises long-term, meaningful impact and works closely with charities it knows and trusts. With a strong focus on Sussex, EKCT also supports selected national and international initiatives where needs are acute and outcomes are sustainable. Its funding philosophy centres on building deep, strategic relationships rather than one-off support, ensuring grants contribute to lasting change for vulnerable communities and ecosystems.
About the Grant
The Large Grant Program of the Ernest Kleinwort Charitable Trust provides funding of over £20,001 to experienced charities delivering high-impact work. The grant supports initiatives across youth development, elderly care, disability inclusion, community welfare, hospice services, environmental conservation, and international reproductive health projects. The Trust seeks projects that demonstrate clear need, strategic thinking, and sustainable outcomes. Applications are accepted twice a year and undergo a rigorous review process, reflecting the Trust’s focus on careful stewardship of funds and long-term collaboration with grantees.
Who can Apply?
Applications are open only to charities registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales or the Office of the Scottish Charity Register. The program is restricted and accessible solely to organisations that already have an established relationship with the Ernest Kleinwort Charitable Trust. Priority is given to charities serving Sussex-based beneficiaries, particularly young people, older adults, individuals with disabilities, and communities facing deprivation. Certain focus areas, such as wildlife conservation and international reproductive health, may extend beyond Sussex. New or unknown organisations are not eligible.
How to Apply?
Eligible charities must apply through the Trust’s online application system during the designated application windows. As this is a restricted program, access is provided only to organisations with prior relationships with the Trust. Applicants are required to submit detailed information about their project, organisational capacity, and intended impact. All applications are reviewed by the trustees over a structured assessment period.
Application Deadline
Applications are accepted twice a year during fixed windows: from early January to early March, and from mid-July to mid-September each year.
