About Organisation

The Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) was established as a collaborative initiative following a joint communiqué from the Heads of FAO, OIE, World Bank Group, WHO, and WTO at the Doha Ministerial Conference in November 2001. STDF works to support small-scale farmers, producers, traders, and governments in developing and least developed countries by helping them meet international food safety, animal and plant health standards, and trade requirements. Compliance with these standards enables access to global and regional markets, fostering economic growth, job creation, and improved livelihoods.

STDF operates as a global partnership that drives strategic improvements in sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) capacity. Through its platform, it facilitates knowledge exchange, funds innovative pilot projects, and promotes best practices to enhance compliance with international trade regulations. The organization fosters collaboration among stakeholders in trade, agriculture, and health, ensuring a more inclusive and sustainable approach to capacity building. By leveraging its resources and expertise, STDF plays a pivotal role in strengthening SPS systems worldwide, enabling countries to enhance their agricultural trade potential while maintaining high food safety and biosecurity standards.

About the Grant

STDF provides funding to enhance SPS capacity in developing countries, enabling them to meet international food safety, animal health, and plant protection standards. Through its global network, STDF brings together trade, health, and agriculture experts to address SPS challenges and develop innovative solutions. The facility acts as a knowledge-sharing hub, promoting collaboration and best practices in SPS compliance.

STDF offers financial support for projects that improve SPS infrastructure, helping public and private stakeholders comply with international regulations and access global markets. The grants facilitate partnerships and create synergies with related initiatives, ensuring long-term capacity building. STDF funding supports both the development and implementation of impactful SPS projects that drive sustainable trade improvements.
