Call for Grant Applications – THE REST AND RESILIENCE FELLOWSHIP
Application Deadline:
November 25th, 2024
About Organisation
The Rest & Resilience Fellowship is a collaborative program by Reporters Without Borders Germany (RSF) and the taz Panter Foundation. RSF is an international human rights organization dedicated to defending press freedom and the free flow of information worldwide. The taz Panter Foundation, in cooperation with the German newspaper tageszeitung (taz), supports critical journalists and independent initiatives globally. Since 2015, this fellowship has offered journalists from nations with restricted press freedom an opportunity to take a much-needed break, focus on personal development, and build resilience. It aims to empower journalists to continue their work in challenging environments with renewed strength, resources, and expanded networks.
About the Fellowship
The Rest & Resilience Fellowship invites two journalists annually to Berlin, Germany, for a six-month stay. The fellowship provides an opportunity to recover from difficult work environments and enhance professional and personal growth. Participants can engage in workshops on stress management, digital safety, and other training sessions or choose to withdraw from public life for personal healing. Fellows will interact with international journalists, visit German editorial offices, and access language classes and psychosocial support. Upon completion, participants are expected to return to their home countries with fresh perspectives and revitalized energy to continue their journalistic work.
Who can Apply?
This fellowship is open to professional journalists from countries with restricted press freedom. Applicants must have several years of relevant journalism experience and a strong commitment to using the fellowship for personal and professional growth. They must demonstrate how the program can positively impact their current working situation. Candidates need proven English proficiency for professional communication and a passport valid for at least 12 months at the time of application. Applicants should be in good health for extended travel and independent living abroad. They must be willing and able to return to their home countries after the fellowship, as German visa regulations require proof of return. Unfortunately, individuals unable to return due to political or safety concerns are ineligible.
How to Apply?
Submit an online application with the completed form, a passport scan, a CV, and a 1-2 page motivation letter detailing your challenges and plans for the fellowship.
Application Deadline
Submit your application by November 25th, 2024, at 11:59 pm (CET).
