About Organisation
The Mondriaan Fund is the public fund for visual arts and cultural heritage in the Netherlands. It supports artists, curators, museums, and heritage institutions through grants that promote innovation, research, and international collaboration. The Fund plays a key role in strengthening the visibility and global relevance of Dutch cultural heritage. By encouraging partnerships between institutions across borders, it fosters deeper understanding of shared histories and collections. Its funding programs focus on research, exhibitions, and public engagement, helping institutions connect their collections with broader audiences and contribute to global cultural discourse.
About the Grant
The Mondriaan Fund International Collaborative Projects with Heritage Institutes Scheme supports joint research projects between Dutch or Caribbean heritage institutions and international partners. The grant focuses on shared collection research, art historical studies, provenance research, and public presentation of findings. It encourages institutions to collaborate across borders to generate new insights and enhance the global relevance of their collections. Funding is provided on a case-by-case basis, covering up to 40% of project costs, with higher support for early-stage research. The scheme is ideal for museums and heritage organisations aiming to build meaningful international research partnerships.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include publicly accessible museums and heritage institutions located in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Institutions must manage cultural heritage of national importance and demonstrate a clear link to shared collection areas with international partners. A formal collaboration with one or more foreign heritage institutions is mandatory. Projects must focus on research such as art history or provenance and include a public presentation outcome. While both partners present results, only the Dutch institution’s presentation costs are eligible for funding. Applicants must also clearly define project scope, collaboration value, and expected research outcomes.
How to Apply?
Applicants should first confirm eligibility and establish a formal partnership with an international heritage institution. Define the shared collection area and develop a clear research proposal focusing on art historical or provenance research. Plan how the findings will be publicly presented. Prepare a transparent budget outlining variable costs and requested funding. If the project is in early stages, consider applying for development-phase support before submitting the full proposal.
Application Deadline
The application deadline for the Mondriaan Fund International Collaborative Projects grant is 28 May 2026, allowing institutions time to prepare strong proposals and international partnerships.
