About the Grant

The M K BHAN – YOUNG RESEARCHER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME (MKB-YRFP) was launched by the DBT in 2020-21 to support young, talented researchers post-Ph.D. who wish to continue their scientific pursuits within India. The fellowship aims to foster independent research focused on national issues, contributing to the development of India’s biotechnology sector. The grant provides financial support for three years (extendable by two years) and promotes leadership in cutting-edge research in DBT Autonomous Institutes.

Who can Apply?

The fellowship is open to Indian nationals with a Ph.D. in life sciences, biotechnology, or related fields. Applicants should not hold a permanent position at any institute or university. Those who have completed their Ph.D. or are awaiting results are eligible, provided the fellowship is activated post-degree award. Applicants must identify a host institute and mentor from a DBT Autonomous Institute and cannot take the fellowship at their Ph.D. alma mater. The upper age limit is 35 years at the application deadline.

How to Apply?

Eligible candidates must submit their application in the prescribed format through the host institute, which must be a DBT Autonomous Institute. Applications should be endorsed by both the mentor and the institute head.
