About Organisation
Founded by Professor Letten F. Saugstad in 1986, the Letten Foundation aims to promote fundamental research, particularly in areas related to birth defects, mental illness, brain structure, and function. The Foundation also emphasizes research into the health impacts of environmental pollution and how human beings interact with their environment. Additionally, the Foundation funds educational grants, organizes international conferences, and awards individuals for their exceptional contributions to research. It works in partnership with The Young Academy of Norway, an interdisciplinary body of young researchers committed to enhancing research policy and fostering the dissemination of scientific knowledge across global challenges.
About the Grant
The Letten Prize is an initiative by the Letten Foundation in collaboration with The Young Academy of Norway, recognizing younger researchers who have made significant contributions to addressing global challenges in health, development, and the environment. The prize aims to raise public awareness of how research can be utilized to tackle global human development issues. Established in 2018, the prize is awarded biennially, with the next award scheduled for 2025. It offers a prize of 2.5 million NOK to a researcher whose work has profound societal relevance. The prize ceremony is accompanied by the Letten Seminar, highlighting the role of research in solving global challenges.
Who can Apply?
The Letten Prize is open to researchers under 45 years of age in the year the prize is awarded (2025). Eligible candidates must have conducted groundbreaking research aimed at addressing global challenges within the realms of health, development, and environment. The research must be of high societal relevance, with potential for impact beyond national borders. Ideal candidates are those involved in interdisciplinary research and who are skilled at disseminating their findings to broader audiences.
