Organisation Name:

The Water Research Foundation

Grant Amount: Up to $300,000

Application Deadline:

November 21, 2024

About Organisation

The Water Research Foundation (WRF) is a leading organization dedicated to advancing the science of water through research and innovation. Known for its commitment to addressing critical water challenges, WRF collaborates with educational institutions, governmental bodies, utilities, and research organizations. Its initiatives focus on sustainable water management solutions, water quality, conservation, and enhancing utility operations. WRF supports various programs, partnerships, and funding opportunities that foster research aimed at improving water-related environmental health and optimizing water resource management at all levels. By advancing knowledge and technical solutions, WRF empowers communities and organizations to implement effective, science-based approaches to water issues, contributing to the resilience and sustainability of water systems worldwide.

About the Grant

WRF’s Optimizing Nature-based Solutions at the Watershed Scale Using Real-time Sensing and Controls initiative funds projects aimed at optimizing nature-based solutions (NbS) for improved watershed and sewershed management. This $300,000 grant supports research that enhances NbS through sensor and control technology to address cost-efficiency, contaminant mitigation, and flow modulation. Researchers will determine optimal placement of sensors, assess cost-effectiveness, and explore timing-based infiltration measures for peak contaminant management. The initiative encourages innovative research approaches, including case study reviews, pilot tests, workshops, and guidance document preparation to develop actionable insights and practical solutions for water utility challenges.

Who can Apply?

This WRF grant invites proposals from both U.S.-based and international entities, including universities, research institutions, governmental agencies, and private consultants. Eligible applicants must demonstrate capacity to meet WRF’s project timelines, as delays in ongoing WRF-sponsored research without approved extensions disqualify participants from new proposals. Entities, particularly water utilities, are encouraged to participate via direct involvement, in-kind contributions, or service offerings. To qualify, applicants must also meet a 33% cost-sharing requirement, through cash or in-kind contributions, above the WRF funding limit of $300,000, in accordance with cost-sharing guidelines under 2 CFR Part 200.306.

How to Apply?

To apply, applicants should submit proposals following WRF’s application guidelines, demonstrating innovative approaches to the outlined objectives. Full details are in the application form provided by WRF.

Application Deadline

The application deadline for the WRF grant is November 21, 2024.
