Call for Grant Applications – International Climate Initiative’s Thematic Call Funding Programme
Application Deadline:
18th February 2025
About Organisation
The International Climate Initiative (IKI) is a funding program led by the German government, primarily through the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMUV), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), and the Federal Foreign Office. IKI supports projects that promote sustainable, biodiversity-friendly, and low-emission economies, aiming to drive global climate action and conservation efforts. The initiative funds large-scale projects designed to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts, fostering resilient ecosystems and communities. IKI collaborates with public and private sectors to generate resources for climate and biodiversity measures, focusing on nations with significant challenges in climate action and sustainability.
About the Grant
The IKI Thematic Call Funding Programme provides financial support for climate, adaptation, and biodiversity projects in ODA-eligible countries. The goal is to fund projects that demonstrate practical, multi-level climate action, adaptation strategies, and biodiversity conservation efforts. Projects can include policy advice, capacity building, technological cooperation, and investment mechanisms. The program is especially concerned with enhancing national and sub-national frameworks, strengthening climate contributions, and supporting ecosystem conservation practices. Priority areas include energy efficiency, climate-friendly transport, forest conservation, and resilience-building in vulnerable regions, especially coastal and marine ecosystems.
Who can Apply?
The IKI Thematic Call is open to a wide range of organizations. Eligible applicants include non-governmental organizations, universities, research institutions, international intergovernmental organizations (such as development banks), UN organizations, private companies, and trade associations. These organizations must be able to implement projects that address pressing climate and biodiversity challenges. Government entities, national or regional, are generally ineligible, unless their involvement is critical for the project’s success. Legally independent, state-owned companies providing general public services may be eligible in specific cases.
How to Apply?
Interested applicants must submit a project proposal, following the guidelines provided in the IKI funding announcement. Ensure the project aligns with thematic priorities and addresses climate action, adaptation, and biodiversity conservation needs in eligible countries.
Application Deadline
The application deadline for submitting proposals is 18th February 2025.
