The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation fosters international academic cooperation and facilitates interdisciplinary exchange. Its Humboldt Residency Programme brings together global scholars, researchers, and professionals to collaborate on pressing societal issues. Each year, a transdisciplinary cohort is formed to explore a central theme through creative dialogue, innovative projects, and stakeholder engagement. With a strong focus on inclusivity and creativity, the programme offers participants the chance to connect, learn, and innovate within a supportive environment. By engaging diverse voices and promoting forward-thinking solutions, the Humboldt Foundation strives to address complex global challenges and foster meaningful, long-lasting impacts.
About the Grant
The Humboldt Residency Programme 2025 invites applications under the theme “The Future of Food.” This six-week residency, held in Brandenburg/Berlin, offers participants a unique opportunity to collaborate intensively on issues such as food sustainability, health ethics, and cultural aspects of consumption. Selected participants will share ideas, develop innovative formats, and communicate key insights to a global audience through public events, media outreach, and other creative methods. Participants benefit from cross-disciplinary engagement, access to international stakeholders, and the freedom to explore synergies. The programme’s support includes allowances, travel funding, accommodations, and resources for event creation.
Who can Apply?
Applications are welcome from individuals connected to the theme “The Future of Food.” Participants include:
- Three Humboldt alumni: Researchers holding academic positions outside Germany and not currently engaged in other Foundation programmes.
- Three junior researchers: Early-career scholars pursuing or recently completing a Ph.D., holding academic positions, and based outside Germany.
- Five civil society contributors: Professionals from journalism, arts, or social entrepreneurship, unaffiliated with academic institutions.
The Foundation seeks applicants from all disciplines with innovative, creative approaches and relevance to the annual theme.
