About Organisation
Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN) is a feminist network that supports young women feminists from the Global South. The organization is dedicated to amplifying feminist voices in global debates on social justice, gender equality, and sustainable development. DAWN provides research, advocacy, and capacity-building platforms for women to explore critical feminist issues, including gender-based violence, conflict, and economic justice. Through its fellowship programs, DAWN nurtures feminist leaders, enabling them to undertake transformative projects that contribute to social change. The organization emphasizes intersectionality, focusing on how economic policies, political structures, and social systems impact women’s rights and gender justice. DAWN fosters cross-regional collaborations, ensuring that feminist movements from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific strengthen their collective advocacy efforts. By providing mentorship, funding, and dissemination opportunities, DAWN empowers emerging feminist leaders to conduct research, create advocacy campaigns, and engage in public discourse that challenges oppressive systems. The organization’s approach is rooted in feminist methodologies, prioritizing grassroots knowledge, lived experiences, and creative expressions of resistance. Through its initiatives, DAWN continues to shape policies and narratives that support gender justice and social transformation on a global scale.
About the Grant
The DAWN Fellowship for Young Women Feminists from the Global South provides financial and professional support to emerging feminist leaders committed to addressing gender-based violence and conflict. The fellowship funds innovative projects that focus on research, advocacy, mobilization, resistance, or creative expression. Thematic alignment with “The Political Economy of Gender-Based Violence and Conflict” is essential. The fellowship aims to enhance the visibility of feminist perspectives, enabling young women to challenge dominant narratives and propose transformative solutions. Fellows receive mentorship from experienced feminist researchers and advocates, access to networking opportunities, and the ability to present their findings on DAWN’s platform. Over a period of ten months, fellows are expected to develop and implement projects that contribute to feminist discourse, deliver tangible outcomes, and engage with local and international audiences. Participants are also required to submit progress reports and present their work at DAWN events. The fellowship supports projects that explore the structural causes of gender-based violence and conflict, fostering new insights into feminist resistance strategies. It ultimately seeks to build a stronger movement of young feminists equipped with the knowledge and tools to drive systemic change.
