About Organisation

The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) is a global nonprofit dedicated to helping athletes with physical disabilities overcome barriers to participation in sports and fitness activities. CAF’s mission is to provide adaptive sports equipment, coaching, and mentorship to individuals facing physical challenges. By supporting athletes of all skill levels, CAF fosters inclusion, empowerment, and opportunity for those who might otherwise be excluded from competitive and recreational sports. The foundation operates globally, helping adaptive athletes pursue their goals across a wide range of sports, from running and swimming to cycling and team-based activities. Each year, CAF’s Annual Grant Program provides critical financial assistance to help athletes access the specialized equipment and training necessary for their sport. Through its efforts, CAF strives to create a world where everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, has access to the transformative power of sports.

About the Grant

CAF’s Annual Grant Program is designed to eliminate the barriers that prevent adaptive athletes from fully participating in sports. The program offers two types of grants: Sports Expenses Grants, which cover costs such as coaching, competition fees, or travel expenses; and Equipment Grants, which provide the funds needed to purchase adaptive sports equipment, such as wheelchairs or prosthetic limbs. This grant aims to provide financial support to adaptive athletes worldwide, enabling them to train, compete, and achieve their goals. The 2025 CAF grant application period runs from October 7, 2024, to December 6, 2024, with grant award notifications sent out in March 2025. Recipients have until May 31, 2025, to accept the grant, and all funds must be used, and receipts uploaded, by January 31, 2026. CAF ensures that athletes receive the support they need to pursue their passions and advance in their sport of choice.

Who can Apply?

CAF’s Annual Grant Program is open to individuals with permanent physical disabilities that impair mobility, affect the neuromuscular system, or impair balance or motor control. Eligible disabilities include conditions that restrict physical function, such as spinal cord injuries, limb loss, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and other impairments that significantly affect mobility. Applicants must demonstrate that their disability is permanent and has a direct impact on their ability to participate in sports. Chronic pain, cognitive and developmental disabilities, hearing impairments, and conditions that do not directly affect physical mobility are not eligible for grant support. Additionally, CAF grants are exclusively for individual athletes; teams, organizations, and non-disabled individuals are not eligible to apply. The program is open to adaptive athletes worldwide, ensuring that athletes from different countries have the opportunity to benefit from the support provided by CAF.

How to Apply?

Applicants for the CAF Annual Grant Program must log into their grant portal, complete the online application, and submit all necessary documents during the application period.
