About Organisation

The Gottlieb Foundation was established to support visual artists, particularly those who have dedicated their lives to artistic creation regardless of commercial success. It focuses on encouraging artists who have worked for an extended period in their fields, enabling them to continue their creative pursuits. The Foundation’s mission is to help sustain and advance the work of mature artists who demonstrate a serious commitment to their art forms. Its programs focus on individual support rather than institutional or organizational funding. The Foundation provides crucial financial aid through its Individual Support Grant, supporting artists who have consistently contributed to painting, sculpture, or printmaking for at least 20 years. By doing so, it helps preserve artistic excellence and intellectual growth.

About the Grant

The Gottlieb Foundation’s Individual Support Grant is designed to provide financial aid to mature artists who have dedicated their careers to the disciplines of painting, sculpture, and printmaking. The grant is awarded based on both artistic maturity and financial need, offering support to those who have faced financial constraints while continuing their work. Artists are expected to have worked in their art forms for at least 20 years, focusing primarily on their artistic development regardless of commercial success. Last year, the Foundation awarded grants of $25,000 each to 20 artists, providing them with the means to continue their creative pursuits. Applicants are judged by a panel of independent arts professionals, and the program is open to both US and international artists.

Who can Apply?

The Individual Support Grant is available to individual artists who have been working in a mature phase of their artistic discipline—painting, sculpture, or printmaking—for a minimum of 20 years. Applicants must demonstrate their commitment to their artistic development and show that their primary focus has been on art despite other financial or personal responsibilities. Only individual artists, not organizations or students, are eligible. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need, and the financial disclosure section must be completed in full. The grant is open to artists from the United States as well as international applicants. However, artists working in crafts, graphic design, photography, video, film, or any related disciplines are not eligible, unless their work directly involves or can be interpreted as painting or sculpture. Artists who have previously received the Individual Support Grant three or more times are no longer eligible to apply.

How to Apply?

Artists can submit their applications online, including all necessary documentation, such as proof of financial need and a detailed account of their artistic maturity. Applications will be reviewed by an independent panel of arts professionals.
