About Organisation

The Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) is an international partnership of countries committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture while ensuring food security and sustainable development. The Alliance focuses on collaborative research, capacity building, and knowledge sharing to address climate change challenges in farming systems. By bringing together scientists, policymakers, and institutions worldwide, GRA supports innovation in climate-smart agriculture, mitigation strategies, and sustainable food production, with a strong emphasis on supporting research and expertise in developing countries.

About the Grant

The Climate, Food and Farming – Global Research Alliance Development Scholarships (CLIFF-GRADS) Programme supports early-career scientists to build expertise in agricultural greenhouse gas research. The fellowship offers PhD students short-term international research placements lasting four to six months at host institutions. Fellows gain hands-on experience in measuring, modelling, and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions or enhancing carbon storage in agricultural systems. The programme strengthens research capacity, promotes global collaboration, and equips scholars with advanced methodologies relevant to climate-resilient and sustainable farming practices in developing-country contexts.

Who can Apply?

The CLIFF-GRADS fellowship is open to PhD students from developing countries who are currently enrolled at universities based in developing countries. Applicants must be conducting research related to agriculture, climate change, or greenhouse gas emissions. Candidates should demonstrate strong academic capability and a clear interest in applied research on climate-smart agriculture. Applicants who have previously received a CLIFF-GRADS grant are not eligible. The programme is designed for early-career researchers seeking international exposure, advanced technical training, and opportunities to contribute to sustainable food and climate solutions.

How to Apply?

Interested candidates must submit their application according to the official CLIFF-GRADS call guidelines. Applications typically include academic details, research background, and information related to the proposed research stay. All required documents must be completed accurately and submitted before the deadline to be considered for the fellowship.
