About the Grant
The Allianz Climate Risk Award 2026 recognises outstanding early-career researchers whose work advances the understanding of climate change and extreme weather risks. Launched in 2017, the programme encourages scientific research that improves resilience against climate-related hazards and strengthens collaboration between researchers and the insurance industry. Celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2026, the award features three categories: the Global Award, Thematic Spotlight: Allianz Trade, and the Regional Spotlight: Asia. Winners receive financial support and international recognition for innovative research that contributes to climate adaptation, disaster preparedness, technological resilience, and evidence-based risk management strategies.
Who can Apply?
Applications are open to PhD candidates, post-doctoral researchers, and recent PhD graduates who completed their doctorate within two years of the application deadline. Applicants must conduct research focused on understanding, assessing, or reducing the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events. Research involving technological innovations that improve resilience and climate risk management is also eligible. Candidates must submit a completed application form, declaration form, curriculum vitae, a recommendation letter from an academic mentor, and a non-technical essay of no more than 800 words explaining their research findings in language suitable for a general audience.
