About Organisation
Unitaid is a global health initiative dedicated to improving the health of people in low- and middle-income countries by expanding access to innovative health solutions. It plays a pivotal role in tackling significant public health challenges, addressing gaps in access to critical health products, and accelerating their adoption. Unitaid focuses on interventions that enhance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria while also targeting emerging health priorities. By fostering partnerships with governments, communities, and key stakeholders, Unitaid ensures sustainable health outcomes and equity. It operates through funding innovative projects that catalyze large-scale health improvements and are aligned with sustainable development goals.
About the Grant
Unitaid has launched two Calls for Proposals to address key barriers in combating pre-eclampsia and maternal anemia. These grants aim to enhance access to lifesaving tools for prevention, diagnosis, and management while integrating care delivery strategies. The initiative focuses on eliminating critical health barriers, leveraging innovation, and engaging multi-country collaborations to achieve significant public health outcomes. Call #1 emphasizes demand generation and health system strengthening, while Call #2 targets product development and supply chain improvements. Both grants seek transformative projects that align with Unitaid’s objectives of sustainability, scalability, and regional impact. Unitaid values partnerships that foster equity and actively include communities to improve health outcomes, with a preference for South-based implementers in Call #1.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants for this funding opportunity include consortia of organizations that demonstrate expertise in relevant technical and market intervention areas. Applicants must have experience implementing large-scale, multi-country projects and addressing critical health challenges related to pre-eclampsia and maternal anemia.
Unitaid strongly encourages applications from South-based lead implementers, i.e., organizations headquartered in low- or middle-income countries (LMICs), with a proven track record of leading health initiatives across multiple countries. Proposals led by Global South partners are preferred, and at least 50% of the project budget should be allocated to these partners. Transitional leadership models, where leadership is transferred from a Global North to South-based partner during the project, are also encouraged.
Broad collaboration with diverse stakeholders is crucial. Applicants should engage with grassroots organizations, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and government bodies for tailored, impactful interventions. The country engagement model should reflect coordination with local stakeholders in designing programs, monitoring activities, and evaluating outcomes.
While consortia may apply for either or both calls for proposals, Unitaid values proposals covering all activities described in the respective calls. Organizations should highlight pathways to impact, scalability, sustainability, and measurable outcomes in their submissions. Individual entities or initiatives focused solely on a single country or private-sector interventions are out of scope.
How to Apply?
To apply, submit separate proposals tailored to each Call for Proposals using the provided templates and annexes. Applications must include the Theory of Change, budget details, and key organizational information. Ensure alignment with Unitaid’s guidelines for sustainability, scalability, and collaboration.
Application Deadline
Applications must be submitted by 12 February 2025.
