About the Grant
The Visiting Research Fellows Program annually brings outstanding peace research scholars to the University of Notre Dame for semester-long or full academic year appointments during the 2026-27 academic year. Fellowships support scholars with substantial research experience whose work connects to ongoing Kroc Institute research initiatives across four thematic areas: Intersection of Gender, Race, Class and Peacebuilding; International Mediation and preventive diplomacy; Peace Accords Matrix focusing on peace accord design and implementation; and Sustainability, Climate Change, and Peace exploring environmental peacebuilding. Fellows engage in interdisciplinary research, interact with fellow scholars, and contribute to advancing knowledge in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and sustainable peace strategies.
Who can Apply?
Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree or equivalent qualification before the fellowship begins. Current PhD students must finish their doctoral degrees prior to the fellowship start date. The program seeks scholars with substantial research experience whose work aligns with at least one of the four research themes: gender/race/class intersectionality in peacebuilding, international mediation and preventive diplomacy, peace accords design and implementation, or sustainability and climate change in peace contexts. Previous Kroc Visiting Research Fellows must wait seven years before reapplying. Successful candidates demonstrate capacity to connect their research meaningfully to ongoing Kroc Institute research initiatives and contribute to the Institute’s scholarly community.
