About Organisation

The National Geographic Society has a legacy of over 130 years in supporting scientific exploration and discovery. Established in 1888 by 33 scholars and scientists, the organization is dedicated to the “increase and diffusion of geographical knowledge.” It has funded groundbreaking research and field expeditions around the world, aiming to better understand our planet and its ecosystems. National Geographic’s work integrates exploration, storytelling, and education to address complex environmental and societal challenges. Education has been at the core of its mission, shaping how communities engage with their environment and empowering learners to protect the planet. The society fosters knowledge sharing through grants, partnerships, and community-building initiatives, helping learners and educators navigate global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and cultural preservation.

About the Grant

The Future of Learning, the Future of our Planet grant supports educational projects that build knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for learners to care for and protect the planet. This opportunity seeks bold proposals that pilot new or scale proven learning solutions, or research innovative approaches that measure educational impact. The program welcomes interdisciplinary projects that span geographic, cultural, and political boundaries. It aims to develop lifelong learning practices that benefit people, ecosystems, and the planet alike. Proposals should address emerging environmental and societal issues, incorporating novel methodologies and engaging learners of all ages in transformative education. While projects are encouraged to include technology, it is not a requirement. National Geographic prioritizes projects that foster curiosity, collaboration, and problem-solving while addressing key topics like Ocean, Land, Wildlife, Human Histories and Cultures, Planetary Health, and Space. Selected projects will receive up to USD 20,000 in funding, helping educators and innovators create scalable solutions that inspire positive change for people and nature.
