Future Impact Group (FIG) is a remote-first research organization founded in 2023, focused on supporting talented individuals who want to contribute to solving pressing global problems without being restricted to full-time, in-person roles in select cities. FIG identifies priority cause areas where research can have an outsized long-term impact, including AI policy, philosophy for safe AI, and AI sentience. Their mission is to make high-quality research accessible to motivated individuals worldwide while building professional networks, offering mentorship, and facilitating learning opportunities in emerging domains.
About the Grant
The Winter 2025 FIG Fellowship offers part-time research opportunities for associates to work on AI governance, technical AI safety, and digital sentience projects. Fellows dedicate 8+ hours per week to supervised projects, gain hands-on research experience, and attend events, networking sessions, and guest lectures. Fellowship projects include: AI Policy (policy and governance, economy, ethics, society), Philosophy for Safe AI (technical safety, philosophical foundations), and AI Sentience (ethics, welfare, foundational research). The program aims to cultivate research skills, impact policy, and contribute to the future of AI.
Who can Apply?
The fellowship is open to individuals worldwide who are motivated to conduct part-time, remote research in AI safety, AI governance, and AI sentience. Applicants should be able to commit 8+ hours per week over the 12-week program. Prior experience in research, philosophy, AI, or related fields is beneficial but not mandatory. Candidates must have access to reliable internet for virtual collaboration, co-working sessions, and participation in program events. Applicants should demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and a commitment to contributing meaningfully to their selected project area.
How to Apply?
Submit an expression of interest online by completing the application form provided by FIG. Applications should include personal details, background, relevant experience, and preferred project area. Selected candidates will be notified for onboarding and project assignments, and ongoing support is provided through co-working sessions, mentorship, and networking events throughout the fellowship.
