About Organisation

The Waterloo Foundation (TWF) is committed to environmental conservation, particularly in the marine sector. With oceans covering over two-thirds of the Earth’s surface, TWF supports initiatives that aim to protect marine ecosystems, sustainable fisheries, and the livelihoods of communities dependent on marine resources. Through funding projects that address the decline of fish stocks and overfishing, TWF works to foster long-term marine conservation solutions. The foundation supports both local and strategic projects aimed at halting the degradation of marine life. By focusing on sustainable fisheries, marine protected areas, and the protection of vital ecosystems like mangroves and seagrasses, TWF is dedicated to ensuring that oceans remain a source of life for millions of people globally.

About the Grant

The Marine programme of the Environment Fund is designed to support projects focused on marine conservation and sustainable fisheries. TWF provides funding to projects addressing the decline of fish stocks, illegal fishing, and over-exploitation of marine resources. Priority is given to initiatives that support sustainable fisheries, develop marine protected areas, and work towards the conservation of essential marine habitats such as mangroves and seagrasses. The foundation funds both local projects aimed at direct action and strategic initiatives that influence policy or regional marine practices. All funded projects are expected to produce measurable outcomes, such as increased fish stocks, improved livelihoods for coastal communities, and long-term sustainable marine practices.

Who can Apply?

TWF primarily funds UK-based charities and organizations working in partnership with local NGOs in the countries they operate. International organizations outside of the UK can apply if they provide a UK-based reference from an approved source such as an academic institution, think tank, or a previous funder. Eligible projects must align with TWF’s funding priorities, focusing on marine conservation or rainforest protection. Applicants must demonstrate a history of successful projects, measurable outcomes, and sustainable impacts. Projects should show clear goals, such as improved fish stock management or tropical rainforest conservation. The foundation prioritizes organizations that have previously received TWF support or have a strong track record of success in their field. The grant application must be backed by a reference if the organization is located outside the UK.

How to Apply?

Submit a proposal (2-3 pages) detailing the project’s objectives, expected outcomes, and alignment with the Marine programme’s priorities.
