About Organisation

The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) is a globally recognized organization dedicated to nature conservation and sustainable resource management. It facilitates programs and projects that enhance biodiversity, combat climate change, and promote community-driven solutions. Through innovative initiatives like the WALD Innovation Facility, IUCN supports activities that address pressing environmental challenges, fostering collaboration with local communities, governments, and organizations to achieve impactful and sustainable results.

About the Grant

The WALD Innovation Facility offers grants to support innovative, on-the-ground restoration projects that are nature-positive and climate-positive. Grants range between EUR 750,000 and EUR 1.5 million, supporting activities for up to two years. Eligible projects must focus on forest-based restoration, inland wetlands, or coastal wetlands, with an emphasis on carbon removals and biodiversity enhancement. Projects should aim for carbon standard registration to attract future financing. Successful initiatives must continue beyond the grant period, leveraging private sector investments through the VCM. A key requirement is contributing at least 25% of the grant amount to project costs, ensuring shared responsibility and sustainability.

Who can Apply?

Applications are open to diverse organizations with expertise in designing and implementing scalable, high-quality nature-based projects for carbon markets, such as Local or international non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Indigenous Peoples’ organizations, private developers, forestry/agricultural companies, cooperatives, and others with proven experience. Applicants must demonstrate technical and financial capacity, a strong track record of managing similar projects, and robust environmental and social safeguards. Collaboration with national stakeholders, local communities, and Indigenous Peoples is essential. Proposals must secure all necessary government authorizations and reflect commitment to social inclusion, benefit sharing, and gender equality.

How to Apply?

Applicants must submit a Concept Note as the first step through the IUCN Grants Portal. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to submit a Full Proposal.
