About Organisation
The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent nonprofit organization established to improve healthcare decision-making through high-quality, patient-centered research. PCORI funds studies that compare healthcare interventions and generate evidence that helps patients, caregivers, clinicians, and policymakers make informed treatment decisions. The organization promotes meaningful patient engagement throughout the research process and supports innovative methods that improve healthcare outcomes. By investing in rigorous scientific research, data innovation, and stakeholder collaboration, PCORI contributes to stronger evidence-based healthcare practices and advances research methodologies that improve the quality, accessibility, and reliability of clinical effectiveness research.
About the Grant
The PCORI Advancing Patient-Centered Research Methods Funding Opportunity 2026 supports research projects that strengthen patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER). The programme provides up to US$750,000 in direct costs for projects lasting up to three years, with approximately US$12 million available across awards. Funding supports innovative methods that improve patient outcome measurement, real-world data integration, artificial intelligence applications, machine learning, study design, and evidence generation. Projects should address high-priority methodological challenges that enhance healthcare research quality and support better clinical decision-making through stronger scientific methods and meaningful patient and stakeholder engagement.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include universities, colleges, academic research institutions, nonprofit organizations, for-profit research organizations, private research entities, and other qualified institutions capable of conducting patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research. International organizations may also apply if their research benefits healthcare in the United States and includes meaningful engagement with U.S. patients and stakeholders. Applicants must address one of PCORI’s four priority methodological areas, demonstrate strong research capacity, follow PCORI research standards, and include meaningful patient and stakeholder participation throughout the project. Individual applicants are not eligible for this funding opportunity.
How to Apply?
Review the official PCORI funding announcement and identify one of the required methodological priority areas. Develop a detailed research proposal outlining the innovation, methodology, patient engagement strategy, implementation plan, timeline, and budget. Ensure the project aligns with PCORI research standards and addresses an important methods gap in patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research. Submit the completed application through the official PCORI application system before the deadline.
