It plays a pivotal role in promoting sustainable practices and driving the adoption of innovative technologies that can transform industries. As the region’s largest sustainability platform, Eco-Business also engages with a global audience, providing thought leadership and practical guidance to build a more resilient and equitable future. Through initiatives like The Liveability Challenge, Eco-Business actively supports breakthrough climate solutions that push the boundaries of sustainability innovation.

About the Grant

Global temperatures are escalating, with the first half of 2024 witnessing unprecedented heat and the hottest months ever recorded. The urgent need to meet climate targets set by the 2015 Paris Agreement is more pressing than ever, as societies face increasing threats from rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and ecological degradation. To limit global warming, emissions must be reduced by 43 percent by 2030, and net-zero emissions must be achieved by 2050. Addressing these challenges requires collective action from governments, industries, and communities, as well as strategic investments in innovative technologies. As Asia’s largest platform for sustainability solutions, Eco-Business is launching the eighth edition of The Liveability Challenge (TLC) in 2025, seeking groundbreaking climate solutions from around the world. This year’s competition focuses on two main themes: Decarbonisation and Cool Earth. Decarbonisation seeks disruptive deep-tech solutions that reduce carbon emissions across industries, while Cool Earth focuses on innovations that address climate-induced extreme weather conditions. Winners in each track will receive S$1 million in grant funding, awarded during the TLC Grand Finale at Ecosperity Week in May 2025.

Who can Apply?

The Liveability Challenge (TLC) is open to individuals, start-ups, companies, and research teams from across the globe who are developing innovative solutions to tackle climate challenges. Applicants must propose solutions that align with one of the two main challenge themes: Decarbonisation or Cool Earth. Solutions in the Decarbonisation track should focus on reducing carbon emissions in sectors such as energy, waste management, or industrial processes, while the Cool Earth track seeks innovations that address the impacts of extreme weather conditions, like heat mitigation or nature-based solutions. Eligible applicants should have a functioning prototype, a clear plan for scaling, and the potential to deliver significant climate impact. Proposals will be evaluated based on their innovation, feasibility, scalability, and potential to contribute to the global effort in addressing climate change. Submissions must demonstrate the ability to achieve measurable results within a reasonable timeframe. Applicants from both the public and private sectors are welcome, and multi-disciplinary teams that combine scientific, technological, and business expertise are highly encouraged. Submissions from international applicants are also welcomed, as long as the projects address global climate challenges.
