The Indian Health Service (IHS) is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services responsible for providing federal health services to American Indian and Alaska Native people. Its programmes support health care, public health, education, technical assistance and community health initiatives. Through the National Indian Health Outreach and Education programme, IHS supports efforts that strengthen awareness, education, advocacy and technical assistance around important Indian health priorities. About the Grant
The National Indian Health Outreach and Education (NIHOE) Program is a competitive cooperative agreement supporting national health outreach and education activities for American Indian and Alaska Native communities. The 2026 opportunity provides between US$246,311 and US$1,101,311, with one award expected. Supported activities cover areas including health education, substance abuse and suicide prevention, domestic violence prevention, diabetes, rural health transformation, Tribal budget formulation and other Indian health priorities.
Who can Apply?
The opportunity is designed for organisations with substantial expertise in Tribal health outreach, education, policy and technical assistance. Eligible applicants include qualifying 501(c)(3) organisations, Native American Tribal organisations other than federally recognised Tribal governments, and federally recognised Native American Tribal governments, subject to the detailed federal eligibility conditions. Applicants should demonstrate experience representing or supporting Tribal governments and organisations and addressing health needs within American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
