About Organisation

The Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation (NSF) was established in 2002 with an endowment from Mr. Narotam Sekhsaria. Committed to enhancing lives across India, the foundation goes beyond financial support, focusing on building skills and capabilities within communities for sustainable and lasting impact. It provides strategic inputs, customized training, and capacity-building initiatives to help individuals and organizations improve their performance and achieve their goals. NSF works towards holistic societal development in three key areas: Health, Education, and Livelihoods.

In the health sector, NSF emphasizes cancer care, tobacco control, and palliative care. Its educational initiatives support learning and skill development, while livelihood programs empower individuals with sustainable economic opportunities. The foundation actively partners with organizations and engages stakeholders, including government institutions, to create scalable and impactful interventions. With a focus on long-term projects, NSF supports research-based interventions and evaluates their implementation effectiveness. It prioritizes projects in Maharashtra and the Mumbai Metropolitan region, fostering meaningful change at both rural and urban levels. Through grants, research, and advocacy, NSF continues to drive transformative change, ensuring a better quality of life for communities across India.

About the Grant

The Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation Grant focuses on three primary areas: Health, Education, and Livelihoods. Under health, the grant supports initiatives in cancer care, tobacco control, and palliative care. The foundation encourages proposals that bring innovation, capacity building, and sustainability to the social sector. Organizations applying for the grant should have a clear plan for scalability and long-term impact, with active engagement of community stakeholders and government institutions.

One of its flagship initiatives is the Tobacco-Free India NGO Grants & Individual Awards, introduced in 2009-2010 in collaboration with the Salaam Mumbai Foundation. This initiative supports organizations implementing the Tobacco-Free School Programme in different districts, with a focus on capacity building and sustainability. The grant also funds intervention research projects with a structured implementation plan. Priority is given to projects working in rural areas and small towns, ensuring the effective implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003. Organizations receiving the grant benefit from strategic partnerships and capacity-building opportunities provided by NSF.
