The Marai Photo Grant is a reimagined initiative of the Marai Photo Award, in collaboration with Agence France-Presse (AFP). It aims to inspire young photographers in South Asia to explore and share impactful visual narratives on pressing global issues. This program not only fosters creative expression but also provides participants with mentorship from AFP, one of the world’s leading international news agencies. By supporting emerging talent, the initiative strives to amplify diverse voices and create meaningful awareness about urgent topics through compelling photo stories.

About the Grant

This year’s Marai Photo Grant focuses on the theme of climate change under the concept “My Reality. Now.” Photographers are invited to capture the impact of climate change on daily lives and communities, highlighting the urgency of sustainable action. The grant offers winners the opportunity to work under the mentorship of AFP professionals, refine their storytelling skills, and contribute their work to global platforms. Two winners and two runners-up, representing male and female categories, will be recognized for their compelling submissions, receiving monetary prizes and high-quality photography equipment to further their creative pursuits.

Who can Apply?

The grant is open to photographers residing in South Asian countries, including Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, the Maldives, and Bhutan. Applicants must be 25 years old or younger at the time of application closure and meet the legal adult age in their respective countries. They should be passionate about documenting climate change through photography and committed to creating a photo story as part of a mentorship program. Applicants must submit a portfolio of four recent photos, a project proposal, and a valid passport scan. The total number of applications is capped at 500.
